A day built for real drivers

EDX, in partnership with Lotus of Vancouver and Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit (VIMC), hosted a Lotus Driving eXperience Day—a focused, high-energy track day designed to help drivers level up with professional coaching, real seat time, and conditions that kept everyone honest.
Our participants were behind the wheel of the Lotus Emira—a car that feels purpose-built for a day like this. It’s modern and approachable, but still unmistakably Lotus: light on its feet, communicative, and engineered to reward precision.
We welcomed 9 drivers, each paired with one of three accomplished motorsport champions and professional drivers: Dominic Dobson, Ross Bentley, and Marco Kacic. Three pros, three distinct approaches, one shared goal: help every driver leave faster, smarter, and more confident.

Why the Lotus Emira is an exceptional track-day car
The Emira is special because it bridges two worlds: it’s refined enough to be a true road car, yet focused enough to teach real performance driving fundamentals.
On the day, drivers experienced two Emira powertrains/transmissions:
· Emira V6 (automatic)
· Emira i4 with an 8-speed DCT (dual-clutch transmission)
Both delivered that signature Lotus feel, but the i4 DCT stood out for a reason that matters on track: shift speed and consistency. The dual-clutch setup delivers crisp, rapid gear changes that help drivers stay composed through braking zones and corner exits—less interruption, more flow.
Here’s what makes the Emira such a standout for a coaching-driven experience:
· Driver-first feedback: The Emira communicates. You can feel what the chassis is doing, what the tires are asking for, and how your inputs change the car’s balance. That feedback loop accelerates learning—especially in changing conditions.
· Balanced, confidence-building handling: A well-sorted chassis makes it easier to explore the limit safely. Drivers can build speed progressively, focusing on technique rather than fighting unpredictability.
· Precision over brute force: The Emira rewards clean braking, patient turn-in, and disciplined throttle application. It’s the kind of car that makes “smooth” synonymous with “fast.”
· A platform that highlights driving style: With three pros coaching, the Emira became a perfect comparison tool—drivers could try different approaches (brake release, corner shape, throttle timing) and immediately feel the difference.
· Track-capable without being intimidating: It’s fast enough to be thrilling, but not so overwhelming that it masks fundamentals. That’s exactly what you want for skill development.
In short: the Emira doesn’t just go quickly—it teaches.

The conditions: just enough to make it interesting
The day stayed cloudy, with less than 1 mm of rain—the kind of weather that looks harmless until you’re managing grip corner-by-corner. Those slightly damp, evolving conditions created the perfect environment for learning:
· Smooth inputs mattered more than ever
· Vision and planning separated “quick” from “consistent”
· Confidence had to be earned, not assumed
It was exciting, it was fun, and it rewarded drivers who were willing to adapt.

Three pros. Three styles. One massive learning curve.
One of the most valuable parts of the day was exposure to three different professional driving styles and personalities. Drivers didn’t just hear one way to do it—they got to compare approaches, test techniques, and find what clicked for them.
Across the sessions, the coaching emphasized:
· Car control in changing grip
· Braking discipline and consistency
· Corner approach strategy (what to prioritize, and when)
· Driver mindset—staying calm, curious, and coachable
By the end of the day, the progress was obvious: more confidence on entry, cleaner exits, and a better understanding of how to build speed without over-driving.
Why we do this
At EDX, we’re obsessed with creating experiences that feel exclusive—but deliver real development. Partnering with Lotus of Vancouver and VIMC made this day exactly that: premium machinery, a world-class circuit, and coaching that meets drivers where they are.
Huge thanks to Lotus of Vancouver, VIMC, and our pros Dominic Dobson and Ross Bentley for bringing their expertise, energy, and professionalism to the paddock.
And to our nine drivers: thank you for showing up ready to learn. We’ll see you at the next one.
